Feel Your Now

These past months I have been overwhelmed with so many emotions. Happy, relieved, sad, lonely, depressed, confused, angry, and grateful.

I would feel some of these emotions all at once. Then I listened to Brooke Castillo’s podcast, The Life School. She spoke about how to feel your now.

The first step is to find only ONE word and describe how that one word makes you feel. And then wrap your mind around it. Go into your body and observe the feeling, shift back and forth, experience it, pay attention to how you feel, and be present in your emotion. If you don’t know what you are feeling, as you can’t name your feelings, then you may be avoiding that feeling.

Step two is to find a sentence that is causing this feeling. Use your one word and create a sentence out of it. Create a list of facts versus thoughts. Most of the time, we have a crappy committee in our heads that is creating thoughts that are not facts. You may be creating a false story for yourself. Focus on the facts.

Step three is to create a new and true thought and give it equal time as your word in step one. Create a sentence around that feeling then create a new feeling around that word. Change, I am not doing a good job, too I am doing a good job!

When we worry about all that is going on in the world, and none of it can be controlled, we have to focus on what you can control, your thoughts.
Remove that crappy false story and focus on the facts.

I go through each step when I am feeling overwhelmed and not being able to focus on one word. I force myself to pick one word, create a sentence around it, then create a new feeling around that word. It can be a challenge to try this, but trust me, it works.
